Chex Gluten Free Cereal

We are very fortunate not to have any food allergies or intolerance's in our family. I know many families who struggle daily to keep their children away from foods that may be hazardous to them. Because of this I was not surprised to find out that 14% of Canadians avoid products that contain gluten. That is one in every 133 Canadians. Myself, I never knew anything about gluten until I saw it posted over and over again on fellow mommy bloggers blogs. Even though we do not have intolerance to foods, I have began to pay close attention to what I feed my family. I am always reading labels and researching new items on the web. If all else fails I have even been known to call a company to discuss the contents/ingredients of their products. It is our right as consumers and our responsibility as parents to be informed about what we consume and feed our families.

What is Gluten?
According to an online Dictionary Gluten is the following

1. The mixture of proteins, including gliadins and glutelins, found in wheat grains, which are not soluble in water and which give wheat dough its elastic texture.
2. Any of the prolamins found in cereal grains, especially the prolamins in wheat, rye, barley, and possibly oats, that cause digestive disorders such as celiac disease.

We received 2 boxes of Chex Gluten free cereal. One box of Rice and one of Honey Nut. I usually have a hard time getting my kids to eat anything that even suggests it may be a "healthier" choice. So I was a bit nervous. I am happy to report my kids ate the Chex and loved it. My entire family enjoyed it with milk for breakfast. Then my oldest son suggested I make a party mix with the Rice cereal. You can find many recipes here for Chex-Gluten Free cereal. We also had Chex as a snack when out and about. I just put some in a reusable container and gave it to the kids to hold them over till we arrived home for dinner. Chex Gluten Free cereal
can now be found in the cereal aisle (as of June 17th) of your local grocer. I have seen it at Walmart and many of the stores my family shops at.
Thanks to the great taste of Chex and my childrens love of it, I can say we will surely be bringing this cereal into our home again. I may even try some of the yummy recipes like the Chex Cookie Pizza
