You are only as old as you feel #sandgen

A few years back my grandmother passed away. I was on the other side of the country at the time and it was a sad time for us all as you can imagine. My grandmother had five children and lots of grand children. She also had one brother. Her brother lived and still does live in England. Since my grandmother passed away, I have noticed him making more and more of an effort to visit us all in Canada. For the last five years he has been flying out every year. I look forward to these visits. I know he is making an effort to keep the family connected. When he visits, he does not come alone. He has always brought his lady friend of twenty plus years (they are both celebrating their 80th this year) As well, he has been bringing his grandchildren. it is wonderful that we get to meet and spend time with our cousins. I know my great uncle is happy as he knows we will all stay in touch for many years.

A few weeks ago my uncle and his lady friend and his oldest grandson came for a visit. they spent almost a month here in Canada. we had the opportunity of having them hang out with us for the last week. My dad was still not feeling 100% from his surgery so I was more than happy to play tour guide. We went for lunch and we also went to the beach and did some shopping in town. A few times I was concerned they would not be able to “keep up” to me and my teens. Boy was I wrong. i had a hard time keeping up to their energy. Every morning they went out for a long stroll in the hat, they stayed up late socializing and were always in a great cheery mood. Even with the time change they had more energy than most of my family. It was great to see. My uncle has had a stroke ans has had knee surgeries. His passion and outlook on life is truly inspirational. I am so happy my children have had the opportunity to spend time with him and his family over the last few years.
My great uncle is an example of only being as old as you feel. at 80 years old he is youthful and energetic. I look forward to spending more time with him in the years to come. If I am lucky, next time we will visit him
