Can Daddy be Creative? Guest Post

Guest post from Canadian Dad

I don’t spend a lot of time on Pinterest, but I’ve spent enough time on there to realize two things.
1 – There are a LOT of crafts pinned on there.

And 2 – It is mostly a woman’s world.

Sure, there are men on Pinterest and as one of my male friends pointed out to me the other day, “I have a theory in life that goes something like this – Go where the women are.” From a male perspective, it’s hard to argue that point. I’ve tried to understand Pinterest but I have a hard time doing anything for longer than 5 minutes if I don’t understand it right away! Yeah I know; a true man and a great lesson for the kids, right? Just because I don’t get the whole Pinterest thing, that doesn’t mean I’m completely incapable of learning new things or even doing things that are traditionally pegged as “woman” oriented.
Take crafts for instance! Prior to having children, I had no way of knowing if I was good at crafts or not. In fact, I had no idea that I would ever have to do crafts. That was, until my wife gave me my first Fathers Day present, a handmade card and framed photo of my son’s footprints. That was the moment I knew it was on! From that day forward, I have been honing my crafting skills and I’ve gotten myself to a point now where I am comfortable tackling any project that needs attention. Things such as

Valentine’s Day Gifts from the Kids!

Or maybe Loot Bags for a Sesame Street Party??

Finally, how about a Mother’s Day Surprise!

I think the first time I realized that I had hit the “Big Time”, is when my wife asked me to do a craft because she thought I’d be better at it. This is not a burn of my wife, it was just a nice feeling. She runs a day care and her crafting skills are far, far greater than anything I will ever achieve! So you see, Daddy can be crafty! It just takes a little time and effort to get it right! This newfound crafty side also makes up for the fact that I am terrible at all the DIY projects that I am supposed to know how to do!

Thanks to Gingermommy for giving me a little piece of her wonderful site for me to use to pat myself on the back, lol. The important lesson here is to never let your husband get away with half assed gifts from the kids, because he is capable of so much more! Hahaha, sorry Dads, hate mail can be sent to the Ranting Ginger, Haha! Cheers!
