7 Family Friendly Attractions in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a beautiful country in Central America with tropical weather year-round.  The weather is one of the reasons why Costa Rica is a favorite vacation destination for many people.  Families also enjoy visiting Costa Rica, because there are so many things that the entire family can do together.

Family Friendly Attractions in Costa Rica

Here are 7 of the most family friendly attractions in Costa Rica:

  1. Canopy Tours (also known as zip lines)

There are multiple businesses that offer zip line tours through the rainforests and they are the perfect way to see everything in the rainforest from above.  No one will miss any detail from the rainforest while they are zip lining along the trees.  Monteverde Theme Park is one of the zip line businesses that accommodates even the smallest children of a family.

  1. Parque Nacional Volcán Poas

Over at the Parque Nacional Volcán Poas, the entire family can look over the edge of the crater into a volcano.  This crater can easily be reached by the youngest of walkers and it is also accessible if people have strollers.

  1. Waterfalls

There are many waterfalls in Costa Rica, however not all of them are as child friendly as others.  There is a waterfall trail located behind the Arenal Observatory Lodge and the trail is only 2km long.  This is a perfect place to eat a picnic lunch before going swimming under the falls.

  1. Arenal Hanging Bridges

Walking through the rainforest can be a lot of fun as well as informative when families take an Arsenal Hanging Bridges tour.  The guides point out many different things that people would otherwise miss and the suspension bridges only add to the excitement of the walk.  On some of the bridges, people will actually be standing near the treetops watching monkeys scamper around playing.

  1. Beaches

The beaches along the Peninsula Papagayo are very child friendly and there are different programs that are offered where children can learn to paddle board, snorkel, surf and canoe.  Another option, of course, is to build sandcastles and swim in the water while visiting the beach.

  1. Floating Trips

One of the best ways to see wildlife in Costa Rica is to take a floating trip along the river.  The guides are helpful because they can tell guests where to look in order to see all of the animals.  Everyone can relax during the ride while they are looking for monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles, bats and birds.

  1. Museo de los Ninos

Part of an old prison in Costa Rica has been turned into a wonderful children’s museum.  The children’s museum is one of five spaces in the Costa Rican Center of Science and Culture.  There are multiple hands on exhibits and children can walk through a giant mouth before climbing into the cockpit of a space shuttle and then broadcasting a live television show.  The museum will keep the entire family occupied for many hours.

Costa Rica is an amazing place to vacation as a family, because there is so much that families can do together outside.  No one in the family will be disappointed over not being able to do an activity, because the businesses know how to accommodate the smallest members of any family.
