Walking my way to Healthy with Urban Poling @UrbanPolingInc #justaddpoles

A couple months back it hit me. I am turning 40 and my health feels not so great. I called around to local gyms and fitness classes to see about joining. It was the most discouraging experience I have had in a long while. The time slots were not really a good fit for my schedule, the length of some of the classes seemed way too advanced for me. And the price, well the price was more than my budget currently will allow.

So I got back to basics.

I have been watching what I eat cutting out all the junk. I have started working out in the morning at home in my living room. I do skip somedays, but for the most part I am getting a 20-40 minute work out in. And i am walking every night and often throughout the day.

I am happy to report my energy levels are up and I am feeling great. Plus I have lost 10lbs in 2 months. I worry about writing that as I do not want to jinx anything, but it has been a lot of work. So hopefully it will keep up with the changes I have made.

One big thing I have done is add Urban Poling to my walking routine. I was sent a set of Fitness Poles to try out recently, 4Life are available online for $99.99. You can see them and other great products here urbanpoling.com

Urban Poles

No matter where I walk, I am taking these with me. They adjust to your height and fit naturally into your walking routine. They help burn calories and stabilize you if/when needed. Because I walk alone often, I also like that I have them in case something runs out of the bush at me LOL This may sound unlikely to many, however I do live rural and have had animals chase me before.

adding the places to my walking routine took no time at all. They feel natural in my hands and give me the confidence to walk longer, farther and often places I normally would not venture to. Last week when I was walking I even saw a lady using hers while roller blading uphill.

The Boot Tips are at the end of the poles. They can be replaced as needed for $17.99, they should be replaced when the tread begins to wear to ensure continued grip and shock-absorption.

With my goal to burn calories, lose weight and get healthy, these are a great addition to my daily walking.

I’ve been reading a lot about these lately and they sound like something my mom would love!

  2. I have heard so many great reasons to get these walking poles and I am also concerned about my health. They would really inspire me to walk more and enjoy the outdoors.

  3. there is a woman in our town who’s been using walking poles for years!!

I have never heard of this! Very interesting-I think I will give it a try!

  5. mommymomentblog says

I was just talking to my mom the other day about these – thanks so much for sharing your experience. I will check these out.

  6. I tried these before during a fitness class. They were awesome and they sure kept me fit! I am glad you like them

  7. If you live in Toronto, check out my urban poling classes at barbgormley.com. Love to have you join in one of my wonderful groups for one class or an entire session! The technique isn’t tricky to learn, but most people find that a lesson where an instructor can show you the finer points is the best way to go to be sure you’re doing it right and getting all the benefits!

  8. It’s funny, but I have seen these types of walking poles before, but never thought of them as something I could use. But, I think I can! I need to get my walk on a lot more, but with back and hip problems I tend to shy away. The poles would provide the stability I need and give me some confidence back. Thanks for this Kim! Congrats on the 10 pounds too! Great job!

  9. I am so happy you like them! I was thinking of getting a pair. I walk too and the path is rather rugged, the walking poles would help alot. Not to mention a form of protection too. I have little critters out where I live and I often think I should be carrying a stick. BTW, you are doing great! Keep it up 🙂

I go everywhere with my poles. If I don’t take them it feels like driving my car without my seatbelt on! At over 1,000 abdominal contractions per km walked, why would anyone walk without them? Elite X-country skiers train with poles in the off season so this is not just an exercise for older adults.

  11. Good for you! Walking is the best – cause anyone can do it. I have seen people on some of the trails I walk with polls. Very cool – and reading the comments above I see that there are classes Thanks for sharing!
