Pear & Cranberry Tart Recipe #DiscoverFreshContest

With fall officially here, many of us have already been whipping up some tasty seasonal recipes. Having fresh, seasonal fruits on hand is one thing I love about this time of year.

Being autumn, it is easy to automatically think of apples and pumpkins when cooking, but pears are also a seasonal fruit and great in so many recipes. Pears are a high source of fibre and contain lots of vitamins. Their texture is like no other and they can be added to many recipes. I love the light taste and texture of them and add them to so many things.

Right now, you can head to your local Walmart Supercentre and pick up some fresh pears as well as other produce. I love that there is a wide selection of food items in-store including fresh produce. They make it easy to shop for all of your needs and fresh food for your family, all in one convenient place!

I recently headed to Walmart and picked up everything I needed to make a yummy tart for my family. I was a little nervous as I had never attempted a tart before, but it was easier than I expected. Plus, Walmart had everything I needed at affordable prices.

Pear and Cranberry tart

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp dried cranberries
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 3 firm but ripe pears. Unpeeled, cored and sliced very thin into wedges
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 piece frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cover cranberries with very hot water and let stand 10 min. Drain
  3. Melt butter in a medium frypan over medium heat. Add pears and 1 tbsp sugar and cook 2 to 4 min or until softened but not falling apart. Reserve. Roll pastry out on a floured counter, using a floured rolling pin, into approximately a 10×10 in square. (The ones I bought came in this size square already) Transfer to prepared baking sheet. Prick all over with a fork. Place pears in the centre of pastry, and flatten them out into an even layer, leaving a 1 inch border. Sprinkle with cranberries. Fold pastry edges up over the edge of the pears. Brush edges of pastry with beaten egg then sprinkle sugar over pastry and pears. Bake 20 min. Reduce heat to 350F and bake another 10 to 12 min or until edges are puffed and golden. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
