Must See Holiday Movies to Download before You Go Away this Christmas

Christmas is a time when families get together to spend time with each other and have fun.  However, many people need to travel in order to be close to their families for the holidays.  Most families will find that traveling is much easier if they have some movies downloaded and ready to play while in the car, on a train, or on an airplane.

Here are 5 of the best family Christmas movies that everyone needs to download before they leave this year:

  1. A Christmas Story

The main character is Ralphie Parker, a nine-year-old, who wants a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200 shot range model air rifle for Christmas.  No one thinks that the rifle is a good idea for Ralphie and everyone tells him that he will end up shooting his eye out.  On Christmas morning, Ralphie opens all of this presents under the tree and there is no rifle.  However, his father hands him one more gift…….

  1. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

The animated version of this movie has been playing since 1966 and it is a favorite in many households.  The grouchy, cranky Grinch lives on Mount Crumpit and he hates the fact that the Whos love Christmas.  Growing tired of listening to the festivities, he dresses up as Santa and steals all of the presents from the Whos.  He hopes that the missing presents will make the Whos sad, but is surprised when he hears the Whos singing Christmas songs instead.  “….maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more….”

  1. Home Alone

Kevin is left behind as his family leaves for a Christmas vacation in Paris.  Once his family realizes that he is home alone, they try to find a flight home to him.  While they are frantically searching for a flight, Kevin is trying to stop two thieves who have been robbing empty homes in his neighborhood.  They have their eyes set on his house and he sets up an elaborate plan to stop them in their tracks.  A few of his booby traps include ornaments on the floor, paint cans swinging in the air, a hot iron, feathers, and ice galore.

  1. Elf

Buddy the Elf finds out that he is actually a human and ventures to New York City to meet his father.  Buddy does not know how to act outside of the North Pole and therefore has trouble in New York City.  Since he wears an elf outfit, a manager at a toy store thinks he is an elf employee for the Santa attraction.  His time with his father has its ups and downs and Buddy eventually runs away.  Walter finds Buddy next to Santa’s sleigh in Central Park and they need enough Christmas magic to get the sleigh flying again.

  1. The Polar Express

A boy in the 1950s was doubting if Santa was real and on Christmas Eve he saw a train called the Polar Express that was leaving for the North Pole.  This begins the exciting journey of the night where the boy meets many people who show him how real Santa really is.  The boy receives a bell during his journey, but it fell out of his pocket before he got home.  When he woke up the next morning and opened his presents, he unwrapped the bell from Santa.  Santa had found it on the seat of his sleigh.  This bell is important, because everyone knows that the bell only rings for those who really believe in Santa.

These are five wonderful Christmas movies that families can watch while traveling.  There are many more available, so if anyone finds their journey is going to be extra-long, they might want to download a few more just in case.  Tell me your fave in the comments below.

  7. The Grinch is still my favorite except for the fact that my daughters and husband all repeat the lines for days after we watch it. Sort of funny to hear them try to use the same voices.
